Privacy Policy
This policy explains, in plain language, what data DisabledDating collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have to control your information. We treat accessibility preferences and health-related data as sensitive by default - and we never sell your data to anyone.
What Data We Collect
DisabledDating collects three kinds of data, grouped by sensitivity. You decide how much of the second and third groups you want to share.
Account basics
Email address, date of birth (to confirm you are eighteen or older), display name, pronouns, photos you upload, and the selfie-video used for verification. Without these we cannot create a profile or keep the community safe from fake accounts.
How you want the app to behave
Whether you use a screen reader, captions, ASL, voice input, reduced motion, larger text, or sensory-friendly settings. These power your filters and the way the app renders for you. We store them encrypted and never expose them in your public profile.
Disability and condition details
The categories you select (for example wheelchair user, Autistic adult, person with epilepsy), any free-text notes you write about your experience, and which disclosures you mark visible. Under GDPR Article 9 this counts as special category data - we process it only with your explicit consent and you can revoke that consent any time.
We also log technical data - IP address, device type, browser, and the time and pages you visit - to keep the service running and detect abuse. Logs are kept for ninety days and then deleted.
How We Use Your Data
We use your information for six specific purposes - nothing else, ever:
- Match you with members who fit your stated preferences and accessibility needs.
- Verify identity through the selfie video so the community stays free of bots, scammers, and catfish accounts.
- Render the app the way you've configured it - captions on, larger text, reduced motion, screen-reader optimized.
- Moderate the platform when a report is filed, so our human team can review what happened and act within four hours.
- Send essential emails like password resets, security alerts, and match notifications you've opted into.
- Improve safety by training our devotee and fetishist detection on patterns of abusive behavior - never on the content of your private messages.
Who We Share Data With (and Who We Don't)
Limited sharing - only when essential
- Verification provider that processes the selfie video (under a strict data-processing agreement)
- Cloud hosting providers in the United States and European Union
- Payment processor for paid tiers - they receive billing data only, never profile content
- Law enforcement when we receive a valid court order
Never shared, never sold
- We do not sell your data to data brokers, advertisers, or third parties
- We do not share your disability or health information with insurance companies or employers
- We do not allow ad networks to track you across other sites
- We do not let AI vendors train on your private messages
Your Rights Under CCPA and GDPR
Whether you live in California, the European Union, the United Kingdom, or anywhere else, you have the following rights over your data on DisabledDating. We honor them globally, not just where the law requires.
-
Access & portability
Request a copy of everything we hold about you. We deliver a machine-readable export within thirty days.
-
Correction
Fix anything inaccurate in your profile or our records. Most fields you can edit yourself from Settings.
-
Deletion
Erase your account and personal data. See the deletion section below - the process takes under five minutes.
-
Restrict processing
Pause how we use your data while you sort out a concern. Your profile is hidden during the pause.
-
Object
Tell us to stop processing your data for any reason - including direct marketing or analytics.
-
Withdraw consent
Pull back the explicit consent you gave for health-related data at any time, without explanation.
To exercise any of these rights, message our DPO using the contact details below or reach our support team through the contact page.
Cookies and Tracking
We use a small number of first-party cookies to keep you signed in, remember your accessibility settings, and measure aggregate site performance. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. The first time you visit, a consent banner lets you accept, reject, or fine-tune non-essential cookies - your choice is honored across the site.
Full details, including cookie names, durations, and how to clear them in every major browser, live in our cookie policy. Read the cookie section below or contact us if you spot a tracker you can't identify.
How We Protect Your Data
Security on a disability dating app has to be stronger than average - the data we hold is sensitive and, in the wrong hands, can be used to discriminate. Here is what stands between your information and bad actors:
- Encryption in transit and at rest using TLS 1.3 and AES-256.
- Two-factor authentication available on every account, free, on the basic tier.
- Strict access controls - only a small group of trained engineers can read production data, and every access is logged.
- Health-related data segregated in a separate encrypted store with its own access policy.
- Quarterly penetration tests by an independent security firm.
- Breach notification within seventy-two hours to regulators and affected users, as required by GDPR.
How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account at any time, for any reason, with no exit interview. Three steps:
-
Open Settings
Sign in, tap your profile photo, and choose Account & Privacy.
-
Confirm deletion
Select "Delete my account permanently" and confirm with your password or passkey.
-
Wait thirty days
Your profile disappears immediately. Backups are purged after a thirty-day window in case you change your mind.
If you'd rather take a break than leave for good, the same screen offers a "Pause profile" option that hides you from matches without erasing anything.
